Coaching

The Sandwich T-Ball Association coach must be a leader. All must recognize that they hold a position of trust and responsibility in a program that deals with a sensitive and formative period of a child’s development.

It is required that the coach have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children. The coach should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, coaches must realize that they are helping to shape the physical, mental and emotional development of young people.

While an adult with training and background in the game is a desirable candidate for a coach it is not a requirement of the Sandwich T-Ball Association. The heart of STBA is what happens between the adult coach and player.

Children of T-Ball age are strongly influenced by adults whose ideals and aspirations are similar to their own. The coach and player share a common interest in the game, a desire to excel, and determination to win. Children often idolize their coaches, not because the adult is the most successful coach or mentor, but because the coach are a sources of inspiration.

All coaches will be required to complete a background check through Verified Volunteers before being allowed to coach a team. This requirement is in place to help protect the children playing in the Sandwich T-Ball Association and will be completed before the start of each season.

Background Checks

Why do we do background Checks?

As an organization that serves children and youth we have the obligation to exercise “due diligence” with regards to protecting our members, especially the children. By performing background checks on our volunteer coaches our organization is:

-Putting up a safeguard at the “doorway” of the organization that will, in most cases, scare off sexual predators.
-Offering peace of mind to parents when choosing our  program, by letting them know our league is being pro-active in trying to protect the children.
